Press Release (May 29,2009)
Performing a Series of Functional Tests for the Entire Plant of the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Station Unit No.7 after the Niigata-Chuetsu-Oki Earthquake (Evaluation of the plant status when generating power at approx. 50% of the rated output)
The Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Station Unit No.7 (ABWR:1,356MW) had been shut down since
the Niigata-Chuetsu-Oki Earthquake occurred on July 16, 2007. On May 8, 2009, we started a
series of functional tests for the entire plant, and are performing the pre-planned tests.

Keeping the generating power at approx. 50% of the rated output, we have performed various
pre-planned tests by 2:00 p.m. of May 29, 2009, and confirmed these results to be satisfactory.
As for the nonconformance that iodine 133 was detected through the sampling survey of main
stack radiation monitor, we reported the results of the investigation today.

Based on these results of the tests, we will raise the generating power to approx. 75% of the
rated output. Then we will perform the pre-planned tests carefully.

We will disclose test evaluation results accordingly.
