The Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Station Unit No.7 (ABWR: 1,356MW) had been shut down
since the Niigata-Chuetsu-Oki Earthquake occurred on July 16, 2007. On May 8, 2009, we started
a series of functional tests for the entire plant, and are performing the pre-planned tests.
Keeping the generating power at approx. 20% of the rated output, we have performed various
pre-planned tests by 7:30 a.m. of May 23, 2009, and confirmed these results to be satisfactory.
Based on these results of the tests, we will raise the generating power to approx. 50% of the
rated output. Then we will perform the pre-planned tests carefully.
Through a series of functional tests for the entire plant, in addition to verifying the effects
of heat transfer, we have been performing final on-site checks on the condition of the equipment
which seismic reinforcement works have been done for. In that process, on May 18, we confirmed
a nonconformance that we have mistakenly removed wrong pipe supports for the pipes (outside
diameter of about 60mm) adjunct to the flammable gas control system which is exempt from approval
of reinforcement work projects. Immediately analyzing the effect, we have confirmed that it has
no safety hazard to earthquake-resistance. Subsequently, we will put the pipe supports that were
removed incorrectly back to the place where it should be, and will remove the right pipe supports
that should have been removed. We have also removed the 10 sets of pipe supports of Unit No.7,
and no additional nonconformance there has been found by May 21.
We will disclose test evaluation results accordingly.
