The Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Station Unit No.7 (ABWR: 1,356MW) had been shut down
since the Niigata-Chuetsu-Oki Earthquake occurred on July 16, 2007. On May 8, 2009, we started
a series of functional tests for the entire plant, and are performing the pre-planned tests.
Today, activating a main turbine generator, we started generation by temporary main generator
synchronization at 6:59p.m.*
After raising generating power to approx. 20% of the rated output and conducting the pre-planned
tests, once we will isolate the main generator from the transmission network, and then, will
verify the function of protective devices of the main turbine generator. Subsequently, we will
connect the main generator to the transmission network again, and start full-scale generation.
We will disclose test evaluation results accordingly.
* Starting generation by temporary generator synchronization:
"Starting generation by temporary generator synchronization" is to connect a turbine generator
to our transmission network in order to verify the soundness of generator and main transformer, etc.
Because of this, electricity produced at the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Station came to
the Tokyo metropolitan area, the first time after the Niigata-Chuetsu-Oki Earthquake.
After verifying the soundness, once we will isolate the turbine generator from the transmission
network. Subsequently, we will connect the generator to the network again, and start full-scale
generation.
