Status of the Inspection and Restoration Works Performed after the Niigata-Chuetsu-Oki Earthquake (as of March 5th)
We are announcing the status of major inspections and restoration works and nonconformances 
at TEPCO's Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Station after the Niigata-Chuetsu-Oki Earthquake.

We sincerely apologize for causing anxiety to local residents due to the fire that broke 
out at the reactor building of TEPCO's Kashiwazaki-Kariwa NPS Unit No.1 on March 5th ,2009. 
With regard to this fire, the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency of the Ministry of 
Economy, Trade and Industry have instructed TEPCO to report the root cause analysis and 
recurrence prevention measures today. 
We sincerely acknowledge the instruction, and will do our best to prevent recurrence of 
events by increasing the level of safety consciousness together with cooperating companies.

Inspection/Restoration Status

 ◇ Inspection and restoration completed between February 27th to March 5th, 2009 
    (Completed on the following date) 

   - Unit No.5 500kV power cable inspection (Removal of cables): 
      February 27th 
   - Unit No.6 Reactor pressure vessel closure: 
      March 4th 
   - High-voltage start-up transformer #2 inspection: 
      February 28th 
   - On-site check, inspection and restoration of the oil protection bank for the 
     transformer (No.2 Recovery of oil-contaminated soil): 
      February 27th 
   - Relocation work of ground motion observation points (Seismometer installation work): 
      March 2nd 

 ◇ Inspection and restoration to be commenced between March 6th to March 12th, 2009 
    (To be commenced on the following date)  

   - Unit No.1 Seismic reinforcement works (Seismic reinforcement works such as pipe 
     supports): 
      March 9th 
   - Unit No.6 System functional test (Primary containment vessel leak-rate inspection): 
      March 12th

 ◇ Work Schedule of Major Inspection/Restoration from March 1st to March 28th, 2009

   - Work Schedule of the Main Inspection/Restoration of the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear
