As for the Unit No. 7 of the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Station, The Tokyo Electric
Power Co., Inc. (TEPCO) received the evaluation that there is no safety hazard to restart
operation by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, and the Nuclear and Industrial
Safety Agency (NISA) on February 13th, 2009, and by the Nuclear Safety Commission of
Japan (NSC) on February 18th, 2009. In response to these, we went to ask the restart of
operation of the Unit No. 7 to the Niigata prefecture, the Kashiwazaki city, and the Kariwa
village.
TEPCO will sincerely explain our efforts for the inspection of the Unit No. 7 and future
functional tests for all units to the national government, local governments and local
residents as before. Using the knowledge obtained from the Niigata-Chuetsu-Oki Earthquake,
we will continue our best efforts to make the nuclear power station much safer and much
more resistant to disaster.
