Nonconformances Found in the Inspection and Restoration Works Performed after the
Niigata-Chuetsu-Oki Earthquake
Based on the "Public Announcement Regarding Nonconformance Found in the Inspection
and Restoration Works Performed after the Niigata-Chuetsu-Oki Earthquake", the Tokyo
Electric Power Company, Incorporated (TEPCO) provides this announcement containing
incidents information reported from June 26th to July 2nd, 2008.
○ Incidents Information (relating to the Chuetsu-Oki Earthquake)

○ Other Findings
Unit No.4
The casing for the low-pressure turbine (B) has been opened and internal inspection of
the turbine has been conducted since June 19, 2008. On June 27, wears with a maximum
length of about 3mm have been found on; the tip of rotor blades (from stages 9 to 11
of the shroud), moisture separator blades (from stages 12 to 14 on the generator-side),
and the base of a rotor on the 9th stage on the generator-side. Wears with a maximum
length of about 2mm have been found on stators, presumably caused by impact with rotors.
The location and size of wear and contact of rotors and stators that were found this
time are similar to those confirmed in low-pressure turbine (A). Contact location of
rotors and stators will be repaired. Inspection of low-pressure turbine will also be
conducted.
Unit No.6
Visual inspection was conducted for forks of 304 rotor blades on the 14th stage of
the low-pressure turbine (C) (152 blades each on generator-side and turbine-side).
As a result, no damage was found. Additionally, non-destructive testing resulted
in indications on the forks of a rotor blade on the turbine-side and 33 rotor blades
on the generator-side.
Subsequently, on the basis of the results of inspections that are underway, inspections
will be conducted on the 15th stage and the 16th stage.
Unit No.7
Visual inspection was conducted for forks of 252 rotor blades on the 15th stage and 260
rotor blades on the 16th stage of the low-pressure turbine (A) (15th stage: 126 blades
each on generator-side and turbine-side; 16th stage: 130 blades each on generator-side
and turbine-side). As a result, no damage was found. Additionally, non-destructive
testing resulted in indications on the fork of a rotor blade on the turbine-side and
18 rotor blades on the generator-side of 16th stage. Indication was not found on
generator-side and turbine-side of 15th stage.
Visual inspection of fuels for Unit No.4 was completed on July 3rd, 2008. "Fuel and
control rod inspection" has been completed for all 7 units. As a result, no impact
of the Niigata-Chuetsu-Oki Earthquake was confirmed.
