Nonconformances Found in the Inspection and Restoration Works Performed after the
Niigata-Chuetsu-Oki Earthquake

Based on the "Public Announcement Regarding Nonconformance Found in the Inspection

Incidents Information (relating to the Chuetsu-Oki Earthquake)
<Reports from May 15 to May 21, 2008>
Reports from May 15 to May 21, 2008
○ Other Findings • Unit No.3: Internal inspection of the low pressure turbine (B) has been conducted since May 13th, 2008 with the turbine casing opened. On May 20th, evidence of wear were found on rotor blades (stages 9th to 14th) with a maximum size of about 4mm assumed to have been caused by contact with stator blades. On the stator blade, wear with a maximum size of about 2mm assumed to have been caused by contact with rotor blades has also been found. The location of contact and the size of wear and evidence of contact are similar to those found on the low pressure turbine (A), which has already been inspected. Repair works on the location of wear on the rotor blades and stator blades will be investigated and inspection of the low pressure turbine (C) will be conducted.
