After having experienced the Niigata-Chuetsu-Oki Earthquake, The Tokyo Electric
Power Company, Inc. (TEPCO) made changes in its organization to strengthen its
capability of responding to any future disaster as follows:
○ Establishment of the "Niigata-Chuetsu-Oki Earthquake Restoration Management
Center".
TEPCO has established the "Niigata-Chuetsu-Oki Earthquake Restoration Management
Center" in the Nuclear Asset Management Department as of October 15, 2007.
TEPCO has not only executed inspection and restoration works for the equipment
in Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Station, but also made geological surveys
around the Power Station, analyzed the seismic observation data which were
collected on and around the site when the Earthquake occurred, and inspected
the seismic safety of the equipment important in terms of safety.
In the Head Office, mainly the departments in the Nuclear Power and Plant Siting
Division had performed these tasks and supported the Power Station. The
"Niigata-Chuetsu-Oki Earthquake Restoration Management Center" was established
to integrate all the functions of the Head Office in order to further improve
the quality and safety.
The Nuclear Power Station and the Head Office, especially the
"Niigata-Chuetsu-Oki Earthquake Restoration Management Center", will work
together to actively execute inspection and restoration works for the equipment
and review the seismic safety of the equipment.
○ Strengthening of the Disaster Preparedness System for Nuclear Power Plants
In TEPCO´s nuclear power plants, mainly the departments concerned respond to
natural disasters such as typhoon and fire, or otherwise taken emergency
measures against any nuclear accident such as the release of radioactive
materials. Aiming at the realization of "nuclear power plants invulnerable to
any disaster", TEPCO decided to establish a uniform disaster preparedness system
for its nuclear power plants within the 2007 fiscal year.
The "Disaster Preparedness and Safety Group" has been established as of October
15th within the Nuclear Power Plant Management Department in order to prepare
for the above measures. |
