Press Release (Aug 03,2007)
Plant Status of Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Station as of August 3rd at 14:00
The major plant status of the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Station as
of August 3rd at 14:00 is as summarized in the attached sheet.
Inspection and work items announced as of today at 14:00 is as follows:

[Major Changes]
[New Items]
  - Small amount of oil film found at the unit 1 turbine building sub-drain
and at the discharge outlet of units 1 to 4. Discharge from the sub-drain
has been ceased and preparation is underway to process the drainage in a
temporary tank. Oil film at the discharge outlet will continued to be
monitored as the sub-drain drainage has been ceased.
  - C shoes (red shoes) found on top of the bulk head inside the reactor well
at the unit 1 reactor building refueling floor. C shoes placed near the
reactor well opening fell into the reactor well at the time of the earthquake.
Planned to be picked up. (Upgraded non-conformance grade from C to B on Aug.
    3rd.)
  - Confirmed dropping of light fixture, dropping of ceiling decorative sheet,
crack, displacement of emergency lighting, and opening of inspection door
in the units 6/7 main control room. (Upgraded non-conformance grade from
    C to B on Aug. 3rd.)
  - Water puddle found in the cable trench (uncontrolled area) between the
unit 6 reactor building B1F (uncontrolled area) and control building
B2F (uncontrolled area). Amount of leakage: about 3 m3. No radioactivity.

[Updated Items]
  - Periodic measurements for radioactivity from the main exhaust stacks for
units 3, 4, 5, and 7 confirmed there is no radioactivity. (Measurement
periods were July 24th to 31st for units 3, 4 and 5 and July 23rd to
    31st for unit 7, respectively.)
  - A worker at unit 1 fell down on July 16th at the time of the earthquake
and hit his right knee on the floor. Diagnosed as "no abnormality,
observation for 1 week" on July 17th at the hospital. A week later,
diagnosed as cracked right kneecap. No radiation exposure. Reported
from the contractor on July 30th.
  - Breakage found on two couplings of the drive axis of the unit 6 reactor
building ceiling crane (published on July 24th). An additional breakage
was found based on external visual inspection for the relevant two
breakage parts. Detailed inspection underway for other parts as well.
  - Crack found at the base of oil protection banks of units 1 to 3
transformers. Recovery of soil under and surrounding the oil protection
    banks is considered.
  - Small amount of oil film found at the unit 1 turbine building sub-drain
and at the discharge outlet of units 1 to 4. On July 31st, a temporary
oil separation tank was installed and two-fold oil protection fences
with adsorption mats were installed at the discharge outlet.
  - A worker at the unit 1 temporary office (uncontrolled area) fell down
on July 16th at the time of the earthquake. Diagnosed as "bruised left
arm and sprained left wrist" on July 17th at the hospital. Reported
from the contractor on August 1st.

All units at the station have been shut down and are in stable condition.
No significant movement has been observed in real-time data such as those for
the main exhaust stack radiation monitor or the monitoring posts.
Therefore, there is no impact to the surrounding environment due to radiation,
etc.
