The Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency's Directive Concerning Data Falsification on Nuclear Reactor Feedwater Flow Meters

Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) has already announced the investigation
results of data falsification by Toshiba Corporation (hereinafter, Toshiba)
of its nuclear reactor feedwater flow meters and other equipment. Due to
this incident, TEPCO today received a warning from the Nuclear and Industrial
Safety Agency (NISA) of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI).
The warning is to strengthen the management of nuclear reactor facilities
procurement.  TEPCO received as well a written directive to develop and
report measures for recurrence prevention that take problems into account in
quality assurance activities.

Pursuant to this directive, TEPCO will develop preventive measures that take
Toshiba's responses into consideration, in order to ensure the safety and
quality of nuclear power plants, and submit such preventive measures to
NISA by May 19.

TEPCO will incorporate these newly developed preventive measures into its
operation and management of nuclear power plants and make every effort to
further improve operational quality and ensure stringent safety management.
