Tokyo ---- Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO) today announced that the No. 1
reactor at the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear power station (boiling-water
reactor [BWR], rated output of 1.1 million-kilowatt) automatically shut down
during its normal rated power operation. "The warning alarm about generator"
was set off around 3:11am this morning, which triggered the reactor's
safeguard system to shut off the reactor. TEPCO is now investigating
the cause of the trouble.
There is no risk of radioactive leakage or other environmental damage due to
this shutdown.
