Tokyo --- Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO) today submitted an interim
report to the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency (NISA) concerning
a comprehensive check on the appropriateness of the inspections carried
out by TEPCO at its nuclear power facilities. TEPCO has been conducting
a full examination of its nuclear facilities, based on NISA's directions.
This examination concluded that there was no new fraud that could be a
violation of technical regulations, or of the duties to report. However,
TEPCO identified five cases which should have been reported to the parties
involved, including the administrative agencies. TEPCO had judged that
these five cases had no safety implications and that there was no
requirement, either by law or in terms of official notification, to report
these to the administrative agencies. TEPCO had already carried out repairs
or replacements in these cases.
TEPCO also reported that it found no problems with the appropriateness of
its own previous investigations concerning the pipes of the primary loop
re-circulation system at its nuclear power plants, other than the eight
cases announced on September 20.*
In addition, TEPCO reported that it found no problems in the latest safety
records on leak tests on the primary containment vessel at each of its
nuclear power plants.
TEPCO will make strenuous efforts to complete these investigations, in
order to submit the final report of the complete examination next March.
* In relation to these eight cases, TEPCO also submitted another report
today to the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, responding to his
direction dated September 20 concerning suspected cracks on the pipes of
the primary loop re-circulation system at its nuclear power plants.
