TEPCO: Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Station /Status of the Unit 5 in-core inspections (Phase 1 & 2) at the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Station

As for the Unit 5, the in-core inspections (Phase 1 & 2) which started on 
Nov. 22nd, finished today. The results are as follows:

○ Period
   Nov. 22nd, 2007 - Dec. 6th, 2007
   
○ Area
   • Upper Reactor
     guide rod, feedwater sparger, core spray pipe, core spray sparger, upper grid plate.
   • Mid Reactor
     core support plate, fuel support, jet pump, low pressure core injection system inlet pipe, 
     local power range monitor, core shroud. 
   • Equipment in the temporary storage pool
     steam dryer, steam separator.

○ Result 
   • As for the No.1 jet pump, on Nov.29th we found that the wedge which was fitted in from 
     the above, in order to prevent vibration of an inlet mixer during reactor operation, 
     was moved from the right position. We will investigate the cause of this misalignment
     (announced on Nov. 29th and Dec. 3rd).
   • As for the reactor structures except the No.1 jet pump, no abnormality such as damage, 
     deformation and dropout has been found.
