Kawasaki City (Takao Abe, Mayor) and Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) (Naomi Hirose, President) jointly constructed solar power stations at Ukishima and Ohgishima (Total output: 20 MW) in Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture. Today is the first anniversary of Ohgishima Solar Power Station (Maximum output: 13MW) which commenced operation on December 19, 2011. Since its operational commencement, Ohgishima Solar Power Station has been generating power steadily and the annual total of generated power*1 has reached approx. 15,100MW which is 1.1 times more than initially estimated. The amount of CO2 emission reduction has turned out to be approx. 7,000 tons.
Ukishima Solar Power Station*2 (Maximum output: 7MW) which commenced operation on August 10, 2011 has also been generating power steadily. The total amount of power generated up to today is approx. 27,800MW and the amount of CO2 emission reduction has reached approx. 12,900 tons.
Kawasaki City will continue to share information on its accumulated environmental technologies domestically and internationally at "Kawasaki Eco Gurashi Miraikan", etc. (a PR facility located next to Ukishima Solar Power Station) and promote the understanding of the importance of renewable energy and electricity saving.
TEPCO will continue efforts in achieving stable power supply while ensuring safe operation of Ukishima and Ohgishima Solar Power Stations.
End
*1 Generated power: Power consumption by control equipment, power conditioner air-conditioning equipment, etc. and the power loss at cables in the power station subtracted from the actual amount of generated power.
*2 The operational results of Ukishima Solar Power Station during its first year in operation have been announced on August 10, 2012.
