In the editorial page of Nikkei Shinbun (page 2) on May 24, 2012, it was stated that "In the revised edition of "Long-term evaluation", which was compiled by Headquarters for Earthquake Research Promotion ("HERP") in the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology ("MEXT") to provide the probability of earthquake occurrence, MEXT considered mentioning the probability of the occurrence of an earthquake that may evoke a massive tsunami off the coast of Fukushima prefecture. However, Tokyo Electric Power Company ("TEPCO") requested MEXT to use contrived descriptions in the revised edition."
The context of the fact is as follows.
○ We visited MEXT on March 3, 2011, after MEXT requested us that we "share information" regarding "Long-term evaluation", which was compiled by HERP in MEXT to provide the probability of earthquake occurrence.
○ On that occasion, MEXT required us of our opinion on the descriptions of matters including Jogan tsunami. We made our comments that;
· The scale and location of the wave source of Jogan tsunami has not been specified yet.
· It was not clear if the tsunami had repeatedly occurred at the same place.
○ At that time, the above was the common understanding of the Jogan tsunami and we did not request them to distort the fact. In addition, MEXT had the same opinion as ours.
○ We are not informed whether MEXT modified the draft of revised edition of "Long-term Evaluation" later, before March 11, 2011.
