Comments in response to December 9th newspaper reports concerning "Nationalization and Capital infusion", "Electricity Rate Increases", "Restart of Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Station."
December 9, 2011
Tokyo Electric Power Company

On December 9th, various newspaper publications carrying the headlines "Nationalization and Capital Infusion", "Electricity Rate Increases", and "Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Station Re-start" were released.

We have not yet reached any concrete decisions concerning nationalization and/or receiving a capital infusion. Furthermore, we are presently not in a position to make any assertions concerning the potential restart of Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Station.

Our present focus is on cost cutting and the securement of capital reserves via vigorous rationalization of management and operations.

In addition, efforts to improve present financial conditions over the medium to long-term will be considered in the "comprehensive special business plan" which will be jointly drafted with the Nuclear Damage Compensation Facilitation Corporation.
